Apple’s latest hire to help in its push for original video content is BBC executive Jay Hunt, which is notable as it is the company’s first high-profile broadcasting executive hire outside of the US, Financial Times reports. That news comes today as a separate report details Apple’s reportedly not-so-edgy approach as it shops for content… The FT report adds that Hunt will start at Apple officially in January and be part of a team that will lead a $1B budget for original content video for the next 12 months....

Apple appears to be expecting roughly stable demand for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max, and iPhone 11R, set to be announced later this year. Bloomberg reports that Apple suppliers have been instructed to manufacture parts for about 75 million phones through the end of the year, approximately equal to Apple’s iPhone XS, XR, and XS Max sales for the same period last year. Of course, Apple doesn’t say anything about its production levels aside from total revenue forecasts....

Apple is currently sending out emails to Apple Music subscribers with promo codes to buy a brand new HomePod with a significant discount. So far, UK customers are receiving codes worth £50, bringing the price of a HomePod down to £269 direct from Apple. A £50 discount beats average eBay prices. Some third-party outlets are selling HomePod as low as $250 and we’re seeing it for even less at 9to5Toys, so the deal isn’t unprecedented, but represents a significant discount from Apple itself....

Apple is ready to show the first fruits of its Beats acquisition next week. As we first reported in early March, Apple is planning to introduce its long-awaited Beats-based streaming music service at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, June 8th. Blending Apple interface design and features from the Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine-created Beats Music app, Apple’s service, known internally as “Apple Music,” is built to take on Spotify and Pandora with several new features and a subscription model....

Apple today released the iPhone 4 free case program as an app downloadable here. Seems pretty simple and a good way to prove you actually have an iPhone 4. Last week, Apple said it would be updating iOS software (“bugs”) to only store a week’s worth of location data as well as allowing users to turn off the storing of location data. That update is coming in a few weeks according to BGR: The update will no longer back up the location database to iTunes. The size of the location database will be reduced. The location database will be deleted entirely when Location Services are turned off....

Via Reuters, Sharp may begin a $7 billion project to build a factory in the United States before June of this year. Apple supplier Foxconn announced plans to explore manufacturing components in the US earlier this year, and this latest report largely reaffirms those rumors with a more concrete time frame. A spring/summer start for the US plant would be sooner than many predicted. Sharp has supplied display components for Apple in the past and may be one of the OLED display suppliers for the iPhone 8....

Apple this afternoon has given its Investor Relations webpage a visual overhaul. The new design puts a heavy focus on Apple’s Newsroom content, and makes it easier to view earnings results from previous quarters. At the top of the new Investor Relations interface, Apple highlights its most recent earnings data. This allows investors to quickly see Apple’s quarterly 10-Q filing, as well as earnings press releases. The new design puts a heavy emphasis on Newsroom content....

[Update: iMessage requests supported as well.] Apple Music and its accompanying 24/7 always on radio station Beats 1 launched earlier today with Zane Lowe hosting. Alongside Apple Music, the company launched a refreshed Tumblr blog with Beats 1’s schedule. The company has also launched a webpage inviting users to request content to be played. “To leave a request to hear your favorite song on Beats 1, call us on one of these numbers,” the webpage reads....

Announced today, Apple Music has begun a new mini-documentary series entitled Up Next. The monthly series will focus on up and coming artists. The documentary series falls in line with Apple Music’s own growing independent content catalog. While the content is stylistically different from Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps, it shows that Apple Music is focusing on what it knows – music. This month, Apple Music is starting off with 6LACK (pronounced “black”) and his journey through music....

Splashing out between $1100 and $1500 gets you a special version of the stainless steel Watch, with Hermès branding on the back, a number of special watch faces and a choice of three leather straps. Apple is doing something a bit different for Black Friday this year. It is set to announce a four-day shopping event that stretches from November 23rd through November 26. You can click here to add the shopping event to your calendar. The event is obviously centered around the US Thanksgiving holiday, but offers will be available in many regions worldwide. Apple has not said what type of offers to expect. The page says ‘Mark your calendars’ to be reminded about the event kicking off on Friday....

Last year, Apple and GT Advanced struck a deal to open and operate a manufacturing facility in Mesa, Arizona related to sapphire crystal components. Earlier this year, we learned that Apple is “aggressively” pushing to make the facility operational by February 2014 and that the building would produce a “critical” and “new” sub-component for future Apple devices. Due to the vagueness and secrecy surrounding Apple and GT Advanced’s plans, there has been little to no confirmation regarding what exactly the partnership will yield for future Apple products....

It seems that Apple’s current campus in Cupertino is just not cutting it. In addition to Apple’s dream space-ship like campus that is expected to open in 2015, Apple has just leased out a nine building campus in Cupertino that could fit up to 1300 employees. The campus, which may be renovated prior Apple’s move in, is currently known as the Results Way Corporate Center and sits at 5 Results Way Cupertino, CA....

As noted by MacRumors, Apple’s self-imposed end of October deadline has come and gone without the promised public launch of iTunes Match. The service will scan your local iTunes library and fingerprint songs in order to make them available for download (or was it streaming?) via iCloud to all authorized devices – for $25 a year flat fee, no strings attached. It’s unknown what’s behind this unusual setback. Could be last-minute backend issues that needed sorting out....

Apple Music next month will release a documentary featuring the popular artist, Kesha. The documentary will be primarily focused on the making of her latest album, Rainbow, as well as never before seen footage of Kesha performances. As reported by Engadget, Rainbow – The Film gives the artist a creative space to depict the struggles and work behind Kesha. Apple Music has been steadily growing its video catalog over time. Anything from documentaries with Major Lazer and Pink, to exclusive live concerts from Taylor Swift, the streaming service is clearly wanting to use its leverage to give artists a voice and platform to speak to their audiences....

As part of its billion dollar Advanced Manufacturing Fund, which supports domestic US manufacturing, Apple has announced a $390 million investment into Finisar. This follows a $200 million Corning investment earlier this year. Apple says that Finisar makes vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers used in iPhone X (as part of the TrueDepth camera system) and the proximity-sensor inside AirPods. All of the VCSELs purchased by Apple from Finisar will be made in Texas....
