What got everyone so interested in this removal was not the fact of why or that the app from a renowned company, but the means of removal. People all over the internet have claimed that as the app was removed from the App Store, it was also removed from their iTunes library and from their iOS mobile devices. As you are probably thinking right now, that sounds a lot like the notorious application “kill-switch” Apple has been known to have at their disposal....

In March, we covered Spotify’s It’s time to play fair campaign where the company laid out reasons it felt Apple wasn’t playing fair. Like most services, Apple obligates Spotify to pay a 30% cut in order to use in-app purchases when signing up new subscribers (it drops to 15% in year two of the subscription). Facebook announced last spring at its F8 developer conference that it would be bringing Apple Music integration to its Messenger app. Now, the feature is beginning to roll out to users. When in a Messenger message, tap on the + symbol to the left of the text box. Then look for the Apple Music extension and tap on it to get going. Alternately, another way to share with Facebook Messenger is from within the share sheet in Apple Music....

Apple has hired Samsung battery executive Soonho Ahn to lead its own battery development initiatives, Bloomberg reports. According to the report, Ahn joined Apple in December after having worked at Samsung SDI as a senior VP since 2015. At Apple, Ahn will act as the company’s global head of battery developments. During his time at Samsung, Ahn was responsible with developing lithium battery packs and “next-generation” battery technology. Apple has used batteries from Samsung SDI in its own products in the past....

The iPad Mini Not to be outdone by the Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7, Apple is attempting to enter into the 7-inch category of tablets. However, it faces quite a few challenges, including a higher price tag. The iPad Mini starts at $330 for the 16GB version and only goes up from there. This brings it close to twice the cost of its Android counterparts after tax. The Mini also doesn’t feature any other new tech, as it is comprised mostly of the same parts found in the old iPad 2....

Apple Music today has quietly added another subscription option for users. Seemingly with no official announcement from Apple itself, a new annual subscription option is now available that offers users 12 months of Apple Music for $99… As noted by TechCrunch, the new option is a bit buried and not exactly prominently advertised by Apple. For instance, if you currently don’t subscribe to Apple Music and head into the Music app to subscribe, you’ll see the normal individual, family, and college student monthly rates....

A patent application from Apple details the possibility of a future AirPods case design doubling as a wireless charging dock for the iPhone and Apple Watch. The patent was part of a dump of 250 Apple patent applications from the US Patent Office late last month and discovered by Patently Apple… The patent application depicts the AirPods charging case doubling as a charger for a variety of products, including the Apple Watch, MacBook, iPhone, and iPad....

Following last month’s preview of Apple TV+, Apple has now hired Molly Thompson to be its head of documentaries. Thompson previously founded A&E Indie Films and has worked on a handful of documentaries and films throughout her career. As first reported by Variety, Thompson founded A&E Indie Films, which is the feature film production unit of A+E Networks. She also served as the head of documentary films for A+E. Apple is gearing up for smartphone battle with Nokia at the International Trade Commission, hiring a crack team of patent expert lawyers to argue its case in one of a series of landmark patent cases afflicting the smartphone industry. Apple and Nokia are both alleging intellectual property violations on the part of the other, with both firms using these as big sticks in an attempt to prevent US imports of competing handsets....

The companies refer to them as distinct regions or countries, instead of part of China … Reuters reports that the accusation appears in a report written by a think-tank with links to the Chinese government. Hong Kong was returned from British to Chinese rule in 1997, at the expiry of a 99-year lease. As part of the negotiations, it was agreed that Hong Kong could operate as a semi-autonomous region, with its own laws and administrative arrangements largely unchanged from British rule....

Seemingly a replacement for iTunes Connect, Apple has introduced a new App Store Connect app for developers, and it’s available on the App Store today… The app offers similar functionality to iTunes Connect. After two weeks to the launch of the latest iOS 5.1.3 developer beta, Apple has released their final version for its consumers today. The note mentions some bug fixes but still, if any more updates come by, we’ll let you know as the iOS 12.1.3 is also soon rolling out to its users. Apple also plans on releasing a new software update for their HomePod with iOS 12.1.3. This version has been in developing mode since December and looks shall soon be part of the new release updates as per an Apple smart speaker....

A tax hike in India on imported smartphones announced last week has hit iPhone prices as predicted. The company has increased prices of every model except the locally made SE by an average of 3.5% … Reuters reports that this makes the iPhone X even more expensive in a country where Apple currently has just a 3% market share. The import tax on imported iPhones was increased from 10% to 15% in a bid to encourage local manufacturing....

Apple has issued a rare recall notice on one of its products today: the Beats Pill XL portable Bluetooth speaker sold in Apple Stores and various other retailers. The voluntary recall cites a situation in which the battery can overheat and become a fire hazard. Apple purchased Beats Electronics and Beats Music for some $3 billion in 2014. The current Beats Pill XL hardware has remained the same since Apple purchased the speaker company....
