Apple is currently rolling a series of updates for all of its platforms. This includes Apple iOS 11.2.6, macOS 10.13.3, watchOS 4.2.3 updates. These are supplemental updates. Apple iOS 11.2.6 fixes App crash due to use of character sequences. It also resolves the issue where 3rd party Apps not connecting to external accessories. The App crash issue is a common bug occurring over all the platforms. So, apart from Apple iOS, macOS and watchOS also solve this update....

As it does every year, Apple today has launched a collection of exclusive discounts from popular retailers. These discounts apply when you check out with apple Pay in apps or on the web. Back in May, Apple was attempting to add Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 as an infringing device in its ongoing, second major patent dispute with Samsung in California. It was also claiming that Samsung infringed two Siri related patents with the device’s Google Now voice assistant feature. Inspired by the work of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, Apple has announced that it is supporting her work to provide educational opportunities to girls in developing countries. Apple says its funding will enable a ‘significant expansion’ of the work of the Malala Fund, and help it reach a goal of providing secondary education to more than 100,000 girls who would otherwise be unable to attend school …...

Apple today released a firmware update for the Mac mini to address a USB keyboard-related issue. Labeled Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.8, the update is intended for Apple’s previous Mac mini generation (late 2012) released before the most recent hardware refresh. Specifically, Apple says the update “addresses an issue that may prevent a USB keyboard from being recognized after the system wakes from sleep.” Owners of the late 2012 Mac mini desktop computer can find the firmware update available in the Updates tab of the Mac App Store....

Wow. As of January 31st, the Xserve will be no more. After almost a decade (it was introduced in 2002), Apple will no longer have a rack mounable server product unless you consider things like MacMini Colo a rack mountable solution. The Enterprise business really never took off for Apple and besides some brief notoriety for their G5 Supercomputers in the middle part of the decade, Apple’s Xserves never really stood out in the greater enterprise community....

Apple is introducing a new “Repair Vintage Apple Products Pilot” program that will extend the period of time customers can receive repairs for older devices, according to sources familiar with the initiative. The new program at first will include the iPhone 5 and other Apple products that are about to become obsolete, and in the coming weeks will add more products to the list for devices that previously lost repair support....

Apple had added yet another show to its growing list of to be produced original content. This latest addition will be Apple’s first animated show with an order from the creator of Bob’s Burgers. As reported by Variety, Apple has ordered two, 13 episode seasons of Central Park which is a musical comedy by Loren Bouchard and 20th Century Fox. The show is written by Bouchard, Josh Gad, and Nora Smith....

We exclusively revealed last month that Apple is developing its own mapping database, complete with 3D Street View imagery – and the company has now officially confirmed this on a new webpage. We first speculated back in February that this was the likely reason for the camera-equipped minivans leased by Apple, at a time when many were suggesting they were test beds for self-driving cars. Apple is driving vehicles around the world to collect data which will be used to improve Apple Maps....

Update: Apple says an OS X fix is coming soon. Yesterday Apple released iOS update 7.0.6 alongside new builds for iOS 6 and Apple TV that it said provided “a fix for SSL connection verification.” While Apple didn’t provide much specific information on the bug, it wasn’t long before the answer was at the top of Hacker News. It turns out that minor security fix was actually a major flaw that could in theory allow attackers to intercept communications between affected browsers and just about any SSL-protected site....

Apple has debuted a new “Find My Certification Asst.” app today that is designed to let third-party companies test how their accessories will work with the Find My application. This comes after Apple announced at WWDC 2020 that it would open up the Find My network to third-party products for the first time. The new app was first spotted by TechCrunch and it hit the App Store on Sunday, April 4, but is not yet propagated to App Store categories or charts....

Apple Music has added a set of playlists from Lifted Research Group, a streetwear clothing brand. The company said it is thrilled to be a part of Apple Music as it gives them an opportunity to ‘share our diversity in music’. Apple Music selectively chooses brands to partner with to offer curated playlists. These playlists were previously accessible through the Browse tab in the Apple Music interface. However, since the rollout of the redesigned Browse tab, there is no direct way to view curated playlists....

Apple has updated its iCloud Status page to allow users to check if iOS Device Activation servers are active. These are the servers that allow customers to start using iOS Devices and connect them to carrier networks. We have noted activation server outages several times, and these outages could be some of the most frustrating ones for customers who purchase a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Additionally, Photo Journals (Apple’s iPhoto for iOS cloud photo sharing feature) has disappeared from the Status Page, but the reason is currently unclear....

Mixpanel reported that Apple had crossed the magic 50% milestone for iOS 12 at the weekend, and now Apple has released its first usage numbers which are based off visits to the App Store. Apple says 50% of all devices are running iOS 12, and 53% of devices introduced within the last four years. This four-year time span metric is new, and it means that it only counts devices launched since September 2014 (iPhone 6 and later)....

Apple Maps has been down for many hours today, causing mayhem for customers seemingly worldwide. Whilst Apple’s system status reports no issues, users across Twitter and Apple Support forums are finding that is currently impossible to search for locations or get directions. The map tiles appear to be loading normally, but points of interest and critical functions of the app are simply not working. Update: Apple has now confirmed the issue on its support site, noting that ‘all users are affected’ by maps navigation and search issues....

Apple has always been strict about its products. I mean earlier it would limit its software to be used only on Apple devices. However, with the rise in demand for cross-platform support the Cupertino tech giant has made its products available for non iOS platforms. Android is one of the massively used operating systems in the world. Now, it also supports the Apple Music app. Music these days is easily available over various platforms....

Re/code reports today that Apple has chosen longtime Apple PR deputy Steve Dowling to lead Apple’s public relations efforts as interim PR chief. The report notes that Dowling’s role as head of Apple PR is not yet permanent as Apple continues to look for candidates outside of the company. Apple’s former longtime head of Apple PR Katie Cotton announced her retirement from the company earlier this year with her last day in the role taking place at the end of May....

Apple today added two new accessories for Apple Watch that will make the wearable fit wrists as large as 245mm. The first accessory, simply called Link Bracelet Kit, costs $49 from Apple and includes six additional links to expand the Link Bracelet to fit wrists as large as 245mm. Apple also today introduced a new Sport band size in L/XL that also fits up to 245mm wrists. Previously, the Sport band only extended to 210mm....

AirTags can be attached to any item in order to track it using the Find My app. Earlier this month, Apple also announced the initial set of third-party products that will be integrated into the app. AirTags include UWB functionality called “Precision Finding,” which enables precise location when looking for a lost item nearby, including haptic feedback. As we’ve seen before, the pairing process for AirTags is very similar to that of AirPods: just bring an unpaired AirTag next to your iOS device in order to add it to your iCloud account....

In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has confirmed that its manufacturing partners in India have started domestic production of iPhone SE. Up to now, Apple produces almost all of its iPhones in China (although some older models have been assembled in Brazil). Presumably, the devices will bear an ‘Assembled in India’ label on the hardware. Apple is pushing hard into India as it looks for new markets to grow iPhone sales....
