Apple sold less than 500,000 iPhones in China across February as the region enforced restrictions on travel and public gatherings to counter the threat of coronavirus spread. Specifically, government figures showed Apple sold 494,000 phones in February, down 60% compared to the 1.27 million iPhones sold in the same month a year ago. Apple had originally projected revenue of $63 – $67 billion for the January-March 2020 period, following holiday quarter strength in sales from iPhone 11....

Just in time for some weekend motivation, Apple has added a new page to their website promoting Apple Watch’s activity tracking features. The page, titled “Close Your Rings,” details realistic and effective ways that Watch wearers can live a healthier and more active lifestyle by completing one simple goal each day. After the original Apple Watch went on sale in 2015, one of its standout features quickly became health tracking with the Activity and Exercise apps....

I gave my first impressions of Apple Music on day two, and my main disappointment remains: despite putting both owned and streamed music into a single app, there is absolutely no real integration between the two. All the evidence suggests that Apple Music has no awareness of my owned music. I’ll get past that in a moment, but bear with me first for a couple of paragraphs. Because this is, in my view, more than just a missed opportunity: it’s almost criminally negligent....

iPhone is presently only available in the UK, France and Germany; now the company is nearing deals to offer it in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland (done), Italy and Spain – even the Nordics might get some love. Lithuania and Denmark? sure! Fresh reports claim the iPhone will launch in Switzerland on April 4. The Apple device will be made available exclusively from Swisscom. Keep in mind, Hardmac had a very similar (actually much better) fake last time....

After first announcing its new iWork for iCloud productivity suite back in June at WWDC, Apple has been slowly rolling out access to more people ahead of a public beta release scheduled for this fall. It first extended the privilege to developers, then Apple employees, and in July started sending out invites to select non-developers. Today, several tips note that Apple now appears to be letting in anyone with an Apple ID despite not sending out invites or officially announcing a public beta....

Late last year there were rumors that Apple would release their EasyPay point-of-sale system as a commercial product to third parties. Last month Apple’s first customer, Gap Inc’s Old Navy subsidiary began piloting them. We’re told there is one per store and they are kept in a safe when not in use. The two Bay Area companies have had strong ties at the top with Gap’s former CEO Millard Drexler sitting on Apple’s Board since 1999 and Steve Jobs sitting on Gap’s from 1999 to 2002....

As with the previous expansion of the flyover feature in Paris and surrounding areas of France, the update was a silent one, so it’s possible that other areas have been added too – please let us know if you spot any....

As we detailed a few weeks ago, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest Apple might be planning a spring media event. Now, a report from German iPhone rumors site iPhone-Ticker suggests Apple is planning a special event for the end of March. The report cites sources directly related to Apple and says that the event “will take place at the end of March.” The most likely date suggested by the report is Tuesday, March 31....

Last week, it was reported that Drake’s latest project was streamed 89.9 million times in its first 24 hours of availability on Apple Music, a number that bested Spotify by nearly 30 million despite Spotify’s larger user base. Now, Apple Music executives Jimmy Iovine, Robert Kondrk, and Zane Lowe have sat down with The Verge to offer up more details on Apple’s work with Drake, as well as Beats 1 as a whole....

Apple has officially filed its mandatory response to the court following an order to comply with the FBI’s request to unlock an iPhone used by the San Bernardino shooter from December. Unsurprisingly, Apple has filed a motion to vacate the order which would force it to comply, telling the court that it shouldn’t have to unlock the iPhone using a modified and insecure software version. In the response, Apple has referred to the version of iOS that it would need to create to allow the FBI to unlock the iPhone in question using brute force as a Government Operating System, specifically GovtOS....

Apple has just debuted a revamped version of its website with a focus on all-new product pages. As part of the redesign, the Apple Online Store has been removed from the site’s main navigation bar, with the option to buy each product now available exclusively on the product’s page. The home page remains mostly unchanged, still featuring a scrolling marquee of product promos and four images at the bottom to highlight iOS 9 and some marketing campaigns, but the rest of the site is completely new....

Apple’s US online store today began accepting orders for the unlocked iPhone 4S, priced at $649/$749/$849 for the 16/32/64GB version, making good on its promise to provide the unlocked handset in November. The company advises: An unlocked iPhone 4S is of particular interest to those traveling abroad as they can just pop in a local carrier’s SIM card to avoid paying exorbitant roaming fees. Meanwhile, carrier Sprint today begun SIM-locking all iPhone 4S devices purchased Friday, November 11, 2011 and onwards, SprintFeed noted....

A new report from United Kingdom-based consumer advocacy group Which? has found that Apple “significantly” exaggerates the expected battery life of specific iPhone models. Apple’s iPhone brand has notoriously had battery issues for several years, which has consistently led to questions regarding the veracity of the product’s battery life advertisements, which frequently seem to promise more performance than consumers were receiving once the product was purchased. Apple’s iPhone battery life isn’t the only thing controversial about its current range of offerings....

Apple has been hit with yet another lawsuit claiming that it intentionally slowed down older iPhone models. The lawsuit was filed in Italy by Euroconsumers, a consumer advocacy group that includes Italy’s Altroconsumo. The lawsuit seeks $73 million in compensation for affected iPhone users. As reported by The Verge, the lawsuit relates to Apple’s decision to throttle older iPhone models as battery health degrades. This lawsuit is seeking €60 million in compensation, which comes to around €60 per device, for iPhone 6, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 6S Plus users....

Apple is reportedly mulling a potential expansion in Pittsburgh, a new report suggests. Citing real estate sources, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Apple is in negotiations to take over 90,000-square-feet of office space in the Pittsburgh Athletic Association building. Apple’s current office in Pittsburgh is headquartered at the 3 Crossings development in the “Strip District.” Today’s report says it’s unclear if the new office space would coexist with that location or if Apple would completely move....

Apple has officially opened enrollment for the new App Store Small Business Program. This program allows developers to qualify for a commission rate of 15% if they earn up to $1 million. Apple says that existing developers who earn up to $1 million in a calendar year are eligible for this new App Store Small Business Program. The $1 million number is based on a post-commission basis. This means developers are eligible for the program until their proceeds, after Apple takes its cut, exceed $1 million....

Apple officially announced its iPhone 12 event set for October 13. The tagline is “Hi, Speed” and after we saw a fun little Easter egg on the Apple Events page for the September “Time Flies” event, there’s another one for the big iPhone 12 event. Head to Apple’s Events website and you’ll see the date and time for the October “Hi, Speed” event along with an option to add it to your calendar and the event’s graphic....
